Imagine the future better, part 2

Lets use schools as the inspiration and the starting point. Work = 6 hrs a day or 30 hrs a week, 9 months of the year. The focus is learning (this is growth but not accumulating material but knowledge) and the environment is nurturing. Could this be the model for society. Perhaps if we worked 9 months of the year and then spent a month volunteering to help people less fortunate then us which could involve travel. Does this start to seem attractive - less money but more time and a sense of shared purpose.

The UK is deep in wartime iconography, Make do and Mend (recycling = good), Keep Calm and Carry On (ignore the crisis, control your emotions and maintain the status quo = not so good). I am interested in national service but instead of military - what about arts, health, environment & education. If everyone spent a year or two being provided with a basic wage to actively engage in these areas for a year or two - would the world be a better place?

How does this relate to money? A young woman working at the Pleasance Theatre suggested salaries be capped at £100,000 and we could strive to ensure that no-one lives in poverty. What would we want to provide free to all citizens - water, basic food, health care and care/education for the very young and very old? I'm dreaming, but we need to do more dreaming of this kind... to find new ideas. We need an imagination for better. BiDiNG TiME is part of this journey.
